Whitney attended law school in the beautiful Ozarks at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, again returning to Texas immediately upon graduation to take the Texas bar exam. While awaiting her results, Whitney had the opportunity to work as judicial intern for the Honorable David Horan, a federal magistrate judge in the Northern District of Texas. Upon learning of her passing bar exam score, Whitney left Dallas and was sworn and deputized the next day as a prosecutor for the County Attorney’s office in Burnet County, Texas. After a year working as an assistant county attorney, Whitney realized her heart was in criminal defense, and took a job in the Texas Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases Burnet office, working as part of a team to defend only clients charged with capital murder where the state was seeking the death penalty. After she left the Regional Public defender, Whitney continued to work in capital defense as an independent contractor, consulting as a defense expert on death penalty cases in Texas, Colorado, and Kentucky.
Whitney now draws on her knowledge of the State’s practices from her time working as a prosecutor to use them to her clients’ advantage, and applies the client-focused mindset developed in her capital defense practice to her clients at Dunham and Jones. Whitney loves her work at the firm, enjoys working for her clients to achieve their best outcomes, and is grateful for the trust they put in her to represent them in their time of need when dealing with a criminal charge.
Outside of work, Whitney enjoys reading mystery novels, spending time at her family’s ranch in the hill country, and playing with her Doberman Pinscher, Perry Mason.
