Mr. Steele’s legal career has been dedicated exclusively to criminal defense, ranging from misdemeanors to high-level felonies, appeals, and post-conviction litigation. He has served as a trial attorney with the Dallas County Public Defender’s Office, worked at a boutique criminal defense firm focused on sexual assault and family violence cases, and operated his own solo practice before joining Dunham & Jones.
Mr. Steele earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas Weslyan University while working as a civilian employee with the Fort Worth Police Department, where he spent nearly eight years. During that time, he received formal training in fingerprint comparison and classification—knowledge that continues to inform his cross-examination strategies and forensic analysis in court. He later earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M University School of Law) and completed significant graduate coursework toward a Master’s in Criminal Justice at Tarleton State University.
Mr. Steele is admitted to practice law in the State of Texas, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, and the United States Supreme Court. Beyond the courtroom, he has taught extensively on courtroom testimony and cross-examination techniques, particularly for forensic experts. His speaking engagements include presentations for:
• Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA): Course Director, Mitigation in the Non-Capital Case
• Texas Bar Foundation & Phi Alpha Delta: Objections & Evidence
• Texas Division of the International Association for Identification (TDIAI): Courtroom Testimony (Dallas, Galveston, Austin)
• Dallas Police Department Crime Scene Unit: Cross-Examination of Forensic and Latent Print Examiners (2015–2022)
Mr. Steele is a past president and co-founder of the Hood County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, a former council member of the State Bar of Texas Criminal Justice Section (2007–2013), and a former board member of the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (2018–2019). He is also a member of the Texas Bar College.
In addition to his professional work, Mr. Steele is a published poet and an active high school football official—blending analytical rigor with creative expression and community service.
