Ryan W. Church, Austin Criminal Attorney

Ryan W. Church is a criminal defense attorney in the Austin office of Dunham & Jones. He has been practicing criminal law since 2005 and joined Dunham & Jones in 2013. He handles DWI, theft, lottery fraud, domestic violence, unlawful weapon possession, indecent exposure, resisting arrest, and robbery cases in Travis County, and he has tried more than 50 cases to a jury and handled hundreds in all.

Mr. Church is from San Antonio. He earned a Bachelor of Science in advertising from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995, then his law degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston. A clerkship with U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio followed, from 1999 to 2000, and Texas licensed him in 2000. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas admitted him in 2004.

Mr. Church works each case methodically and closely with the client. He reviews the evidence with them and explains the law, how the Travis County system works, and their options. The client tells him what happened from their side and how the case affects them. Once the client decides how to proceed, he carries out that decision with his fullest effort.

He does this work because no other practice is as engaging to him as criminal law. The jury trial is the hardest professional challenge an attorney faces, and a safeguard for the freedom and reputation of someone wrongly accused. Whether he is negotiating a lesser penalty or fighting the charge at trial, it is the most fulfilling work he can do.
