Jeremy H. Sims, Houston Criminal Attorney

Jeremy H. Sims is a criminal defense attorney in the Houston office of Dunham & Jones. He represents clients charged with felonies and DWI, and he appears most often in Harris and Galveston Counties.

Mr. Sims is from Houston and grew up in the city's Fifth Ward, so he knows many of the communities he serves firsthand. He studied psychology, with a minor in biology, at Sam Houston State University, then earned his Juris Doctor in 2020 from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, a historically Black university. Those experiences shape how he treats clients from every walk of life: with respect, understanding, and no judgment.

Licensed in Texas in 2021, Mr. Sims began his career in transactional law, running his own firm in Houston for three years and working on contracts and business structures. That work gave him a close eye for detail and a clear view of how legal decisions affect people's lives and livelihoods. He brought both to criminal defense, where he has taken cases to jury trial, and he has handled hundreds of cases over his career.

Mr. Sims reviews the evidence closely, looks for the weaknesses in the State's case, and builds a strategy that gives his client real options, whether that means negotiating a resolution or preparing to fight the case at trial. He does criminal defense because he believes everyone deserves someone in their corner when the government uses its power against them. He enjoys courtroom advocacy, but what matters most to him is that his clients are heard, treated fairly, and not defined by the worst allegation or the worst moment of their lives.
