Brian Lee Risinger, Waco Criminal Attorney

Brian Lee Risinger is a criminal defense attorney in the Waco office of Dunham & Jones who has practiced criminal law since 1994, most of that time as a prosecutor. He handles mainly felony cases, with sexual assault and drug charges making up the bulk of his work, and he takes high-profile misdemeanors as well. He appears most often in McLennan, Coryell, Hill, and Bell Counties.

Mr. Risinger was born and raised in Madisonville, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University in 1991, and while there he served as a White House intern for President George H. W. Bush. At Oklahoma City University School of Law, where he earned his law degree in 1994, he competed on the Benton Moot Court team that placed second in the nation at the St. John's moot court competition on privacy. He was licensed in Texas later that year.

From 2000 to 2010 Mr. Risinger served as an Assistant County Attorney in Brazos County, where he was a Trial Court Chief. Madison County then elected him its Criminal District Attorney, an office he held from 2011 to 2022. As a prosecutor he handled the full range of criminal cases, including capital murder, murder, sexual assault, drugs, assault, and driving while intoxicated. He ran his own practice from 2023 until joining Dunham & Jones.

Mr. Risinger has tried more than 100 jury trials, all as first chair, and has handled thousands of cases.

He prepares a case from day one as though it is going to trial. In his experience a case resolves more easily once the prosecutor understands the defense is ready to try it. He does criminal defense work because too many people are wrongly charged, or charged after an investigation that was not done properly, and end up facing punishment that does not fit what actually happened.

Mr. Risinger works out of the Waco office, where his wife, Suzanne, grew up. In his free time he travels and spends time outdoors.
