Jessica Gonzalez, San Antonio Criminal Attorney

Jessica Annette Gonzalez is a criminal defense attorney in the San Antonio office of Dunham & Jones with more than two decades of experience in criminal law. Most of her caseload involves people accused of sex crimes and family violence, and she appears mainly in the family violence misdemeanor courts and felony courts of Bexar County. She has tried more than 60 jury trials and handled thousands of cases.

Ms. Gonzalez was born in Houston and raised on the East Coast. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Old Dominion University in 2000 and moved to San Antonio in 2001 for law school, where she fell in love with the community. After graduating from St. Mary's University School of Law in 2004, she spent eight years with the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, trying a wide variety of cases as a misdemeanor and then a felony prosecutor and learning the inner workings of the office.

In 2012 she opened her own criminal defense practice, representing people from all walks of life charged with offenses ranging from traffic tickets to murder, and she joined Dunham & Jones in 2022. When a case is headed to trial, she does not rely on the investigation law enforcement did. She reviews the State's evidence for legal sufficiency, then runs her own investigation with the firm's team, whether that means talking to witnesses officers missed, retaining experts, or looking for evidence that was overlooked, so the jury hears the client's side of the story.

Ms. Gonzalez joined the board of the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association in 2021 and was elected to its executive board in 2025. She has written articles for The Defender and spoken at continuing legal education programs for the association. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of San Antonio and a 2012 graduate of Leadership Women of Texas.

In her personal time, she enjoys reading mystery novels, spending time with family, and relaxing with her two dogs, Berkley and Olive.
