Tony Pollreisz, San Antonio Criminal Attorney

John A. 'Tony' Pollreisz is a Managing Attorney in the San Antonio office of Dunham & Jones, where he also represents clients in DWI and criminal defense cases. He handles felonies and misdemeanors, including murder, aggravated assault, sexual offenses, kidnapping, weapons, drug, family violence, felony DWI, and evading arrest charges, as well as DWI, assault, burglary, robbery, theft, prostitution and solicitation, and marijuana offenses. He has been assigned to cases in Bexar, Bandera, Gillespie, Kerr, Guadalupe, Medina, Atascosa, Wilson, and Frio Counties.

A proud lifelong Texan, Mr. Pollreisz was born and raised on a sheep farm in Amarillo. At Southwestern University in Georgetown, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish in 2012, after studying abroad at the Universidad de Granada in Spain in 2011. Law school brought him to San Antonio, where he earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary's University School of Law in 2016 and met his wife, Elizabeth. The two are proud to call San Antonio home.

Mr. Pollreisz brings a broad legal background to criminal defense. During law school he served as a student attorney in the St. Mary's Civil Justice Clinic and worked as a legal secretary for local attorney Bryan A. Woods. After he was licensed in Texas in 2016, he worked at Heard & Smith from 2017 to 2018 as a staff attorney and hearing attorney, representing disabled clients in hundreds of Social Security disability matters through the administrative hearing process. From 2018 to 2019 he handled pre-litigation work at Thomas J. Henry on civil matters involving trucking companies, insurance carriers, and serious injuries.

He found his calling in criminal defense and joined Dunham & Jones in 2019. Since then he has handled more than 1,000 criminal cases and served as first or second chair in dozens of jury trials in misdemeanor and felony courts. He is fluent in Spanish and speaks directly with clients and their families, and he has represented clients in immigration proceedings and handled immigration issues that arise alongside criminal cases. He completed the Tim Evans Texas Criminal Trial College in 2021.

Mr. Pollreisz takes particular pride in defending the "little guys" and "underdogs" of the justice system. His approach is built around communication: he listens to the client, identifies the problems that can be solved, makes sure the client understands the options, and develops a strategy with the client. The facts and the law cannot always be changed, but he works to make sure the client is heard and the State is held to its burden.

He is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Bar Association, and the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association, and he holds Credentials of Ministry, which allow him to officiate weddings. Outside of work, he is an unapologetic nerd who enjoys sci-fi and horror movies, video games, Renaissance festivals, comic conventions, concerts, travel, and time with Elizabeth and their pets.
