Amy A. Mintah, Houston Criminal Attorney

Amy A. Mintah is a criminal defense attorney in the Houston office of Dunham & Jones. She handles DWI, assault, and drug cases, along with sexual assault, theft, solicitation, prostitution, and injury to a child charges, and appears almost entirely in Montgomery County, with some cases in Brazoria County.

Ms. Mintah practiced law in Canada before coming to Texas. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and criminology and her Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa, finishing law school in 2015. In law school she represented clients wrongfully convicted of murder and other serious offenses, interned at the Department of Justice, where she helped draft the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights, and worked with the late Justice Rosenberg of the Ontario Court of Appeal on a project for self-represented litigants.

After articling at The Legal Clinic in Perth, Ontario, she was called to the Ontario bar in 2016 and practiced there until 2020. From 2020 to 2023 she was an associate lawyer at Barker Willson Professional Corporation, and in 2024 she opened her own practice, Mintah Law, in Ottawa. Texas licensed her in 2024, and she moved to Houston in 2025, where her husband has family. She belongs to the Montgomery County and Brazoria County Bar Associations, and her practice has spanned hundreds of criminal cases along with real estate, wills and estates, criminal injury, and corporate matters.

Ms. Mintah reviews discovery closely, gets every detail from the client, and finds where the State's case is weak before settling on a strategy. She then walks the client through the strengths and weaknesses and recommends whether to resolve the case or try it. She chose criminal defense because representing clients whose liberty is at risk is the work she finds most rewarding.

Outside of work, Ms. Mintah runs marathons, travels, and spends time outdoors.
