Fred Howey, Fort Worth Criminal Attorney

Fred David Howey is a criminal defense attorney in the Fort Worth office of Dunham & Jones. He handles felony cases in Tarrant County and has tried more than 40 jury trials, from Class A and B misdemeanors to serious felonies, across a career of thousands of cases.

Mr. Howey graduated third in his class from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law in 2010 and was inducted into Phi Delta Phi, an international legal honor society. He was licensed in Texas that year, and he is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas and the United States Supreme Court.

From 2010 to 2020 he ran a solo practice in Bedford and Hurst, focused on criminal defense and family law. That work included juvenile defense and representing parents and children in Child Protective Services cases, which helps when a client faces criminal charges while the State tries to remove their children.

Mr. Howey digs into the facts and procedural history early, looking for constitutional and evidentiary problems and for suppression issues, then builds a strategy around what the client wants and what risk they can carry. He stays direct about what is realistic, because trust matters as much as legal strategy. He does this work because everyone deserves someone making sure the government follows its own rules and proves its case.

Before law school, Mr. Howey served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1996 to 2009, deploying to Iraq in 2005 and 2006 and leaving as a First Lieutenant. He is an Eagle Scout, a scoutmaster, a past president of the North East Tarrant County Bar Association, and an American Legion member.
