Edward Castillo, Fort Worth Criminal Attorney

Edward Eugene Castillo is a criminal defense attorney in the Fort Worth office of Dunham & Jones who has spent his career in the courtroom as a prosecutor and a defense lawyer. He appears most often in Hood and Parker Counties and handles DWI, drug possession, assault, burglary, sexual assault, and theft cases, along with juvenile matters. He has tried more than 140 cases to juries, more than 80 of them as first chair, and has handled thousands of cases.

Mr. Castillo grew up in a rural West Texas town. He earned a degree in Criminal Justice Administration from West Texas A&M University in 1996 and worked as a probation officer in Bastrop County from 1997 to 1999. He then earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in Houston in 2002, where he served as president of the Hispanic Law Students Association and clerked for Robins, Cloud, Greenwood & Lubel, LLP.

Licensed in Texas in 2002, Mr. Castillo prosecuted cases for the Randall County District Attorney's Office from 2002 to 2003 and the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office from 2003 to 2008. He ran his own firm, the Law Office of Edward E. Castillo, from 2008 to 2017, returned to the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office from 2017 to 2019, and then worked as staff counsel for Allstate Insurance from 2019 to 2021 and for Fred Loya Insurance from 2021 to 2023. He joined Dunham & Jones in 2024. Over his career he has handled cases ranging from traffic citations to first-degree felonies, as well as civil litigation and juvenile matters.

Mr. Castillo starts by listening to the client, from their background to what led to their contact with law enforcement and what they want from their case, and then looks for a reasonable way to reach those goals. By explaining his experience and how he will use it for them, he makes sure clients know their case is a priority, and he relies on preparation and experience to move it forward. Mr. Castillo does this work because people going through the toughest time in their lives deserve respect, and because the Constitution only means something when lawyers stand up for people facing the force of the government.

He is a member of the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Tarrant County Bar Association, the Tarrant County Mexican American Bar Association, and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and he has volunteered with Texas Lawyers for Texas Vets, a free legal clinic for veterans. Mr. Castillo has lived in Tarrant County for more than two decades, where he raised his son and was active in his Boy Scouts, Little League, choir, and piano activities. He is a member of First United Methodist Church of Arlington and enjoys golf, fishing, and time with friends and family.
