Leo Henry Gonzalez, San Antonio Criminal Attorney

Leo Henry Gonzalez is a criminal defense attorney in the San Antonio office of Dunham & Jones and a former prosecutor in Nueces and Bexar Counties. Licensed in Texas since 2007, he handles state criminal cases of all kinds in Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, and Medina Counties. He has tried more than 100 jury trials as first chair and more than 20 as second chair, and has handled thousands of cases.

Mr. Gonzalez was born and raised in Corpus Christi, where he graduated from W. Ray High School and decided, watching Perry Mason and Law & Order reruns, that he would end up in the law. He earned a degree in criminal justice from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2002 and his Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, where he worked in the legal clinic in 2006.

Mr. Gonzalez was an Assistant District Attorney in Nueces County from 2007 to 2015, where he was one of the county's two gang prosecutors, and in Bexar County from 2015 to 2020, trying child abuse and murder cases. He was featured on an episode of NBC's Dateline in 2020. He left the Bexar County office that year for criminal defense, and from 2020 to 2024 he served as a part-time magistrate judge appointed by the Bexar County Commissioners Court.

Mr. Gonzalez tells clients he knows they are worried and scared, and that he will do everything he can to limit the long-term consequences of the case. He gives each client the information they need to decide how it is handled.

Outside the office, Mr. Gonzalez spends time with his wife, also a practicing attorney, and their children, who play sports. He is a die-hard Spurs and Cowboys fan who enjoys movies, music, and trivia.
