Benjamin Edward Griffin, Denton Criminal Attorney

Benjamin Edward Griffin is a criminal defense attorney in the Denton office of Dunham & Jones. Most of his cases are misdemeanor DWI and assault family violence charges, along with felony DWI. He appears most often in the Denton County Criminal Courts at Law and handles felony DWI cases in the 16th District Court, and he has covered cases in other Denton County district courts and in Cooke and Wise Counties.

Born and raised in Fort Worth, Mr. Griffin's early interest in the law led him to Baylor University. Through the Honors College's University Scholars program, he completed a custom curriculum ranging from political science and philosophy to psychology and economics, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 2016. He went on to Baylor Law School, which requires every student to complete Practice Court, an intensive final-year program of mock exercises and coursework in pleading, discovery, and trial. He also served as a technical editor of the Baylor Law Review, earned his Juris Doctor in 2021, and was licensed in Texas in 2022.

While interning at the McLennan County District Attorney's Office in 2019, Mr. Griffin saw firsthand how often the criminal justice system fails people struggling with poverty, addiction, or mental health challenges. Ever since, he has dedicated himself to making sure anyone accused of a crime has access to a vigorous defense. He also interned for Judge Alan Albright of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in 2020. Before law school, he worked remotely for Apple as a senior technical support advisor. At Dunham & Jones, his first legal job, he has served as second chair in jury trials and handled hundreds of cases.

Mr. Griffin works a case as a question of risk. He identifies which consequences of a charge would hurt a particular client most, then weighs the State's evidence, the lowest offer the State will make, and any mitigating facts so the client can compare a plea against the real risks of trial.

Outside of his legal work, Mr. Griffin enjoys dabbling in computer programming and graphic design. A former Eagle Scout, he also loves hiking and exploring the outdoors. At home, he relaxes with his pet corgi and helps his family foster rescue dogs.
