Israel Rojas, Jr. is a criminal defense attorney in the Houston office of Dunham & Jones and a former felony and misdemeanor prosecutor with the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office. Having built cases for the State before turning to the defense of the accused, Mr. Rojas knows how prosecutors evaluate a file, where the weaknesses in a case tend to hide, and what it takes to move a charge toward dismissal or reduction.
A native of McAllen, Texas, Mr. Rojas earned his Bachelor of Arts in History magna cum laude from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2019 before attending Widener University Commonwealth Law School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2024. For a year and a half during law school, he interned with the Adams County District Attorney's Office in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, gaining hands-on exposure to charging decisions and courtroom procedure well before he was licensed.
Mr. Rojas returned home to South Texas to begin his career as a prosecutor with the Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office, where he handled both misdemeanor and felony dockets from 2024 to 2025. During that time he was part of four jury trials — three misdemeanor and one felony — and worked cases through every stage, from intake and grand jury review to plea negotiation and verdict.
He moved to Houston to join Dunham & Jones, where he has served as the attorney designated to Harris County misdemeanor matters in County Criminal Courts at Law Nos. 12, 13, and 15, and has handled the firm's Brazoria County caseload. He currently works in the firm's intake department, which makes him the first attorney many clients speak with after an arrest — often on the worst day they have had.
Mr. Rojas approaches that role the way he approaches every case: by listening first, explaining the process in plain terms, and making sure clients understand what they are facing and what can be done about it.
