Caitlin 'Cait' Meriwether is a criminal defense attorney in the San Antonio office of Dunham & Jones. She handles DWI, assault, and other misdemeanor cases, mainly in Bexar, Medina, and Frio Counties, and she has handled hundreds of cases.
Ms. Meriwether grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, before living in Lubbock and relocating to call San Antonio home. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2017, and went on to Texas Tech University School of Law, where she concentrated in Criminal Law and Innocence and earned her Juris Doctor in 2022.
During law school, she took part in the Criminal Law Association, the Capital Punishment Clinic, and trial advocacy programs, and she was the founding president of the school's National Lawyers Guild chapter. Her focus was always on becoming a criminal defense attorney and advocating for people facing the prosecutorial power of the State.
In 2021, during her final year of law school, she began clerking for Lubbock attorney Nicky Boatwright, focusing on DWI charges and clients experiencing mental health issues, and she stayed on as an associate after she was licensed in Texas in 2022, through 2023. From 2022 to 2024 she also took court appointments in her own capacity through the Lubbock Private Defender's Office, mostly for clients with mental health needs. These experiences shaped her belief that everyone needs an advocate they know they can count on. She has conducted multiple jury trials as both first and second chair and she completed the TCDLA Tim Evans Texas Criminal Trial College.
Ms. Meriwether believes the biggest obstacle in defense work is stopping for a moment to listen. People facing charges are often living through the worst days of their lives, so she takes the time to learn each client's story and keeps everyone on the same page.
She is a member of the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. In her free time, Ms. Meriwether enjoys hanging out with her pets (two dogs, a cat, and two parakeets) and playing board games, and she is a shameless consumer of any remotely interesting show or movie.
