Robert Buford, Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist

Robert Buford III is Of Counsel to Dunham & Jones and one of Texas’s most experienced criminal defense attorneys. Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Mr. Buford brings almost three decades of courtroom experience and more than 50 jury trials to verdict. He has successfully defended clients across a wide range of complex charges, including DWI, family violence, drug distribution, and serious felony offenses.

Mr. Buford began his legal career at Dunham & Jones in the late 1990s before founding a private practice focused on trial-driven criminal defense. He is widely recognized for obtaining favorable results in high-stakes cases, including numerous dismissals and Not Guilty verdicts, even in cases involving elevated blood alcohol levels, search warrants, and “No Refusal” weekends. His litigation record speaks for itself: time and again, he has secured victories where the odds were against his clients.

Beyond his trial advocacy, Mr. Buford has contributed to criminal justice reform by co-chairing the committee that drafted the standing order for blood test discovery in Travis County, improving transparency and fairness in DWI prosecutions. Mr. Buford holds a B.S. from Texas A&M University, a J.D. from the University of Denver, and a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.
