Allen Michael Ayers, Plano & Denton Criminal Attorney

Allen Michael Ayers is a criminal defense attorney and the managing attorney for the Denton and Plano offices of Dunham & Jones, serving clients in Denton and Collin Counties. He represents people accused of misdemeanors, DWI, assault, family violence, sex crimes, and felony charges. He has tried more than 25 jury trials as first chair and a greater number as second chair, and he has handled more than 1,000 cases.

Mr. Ayers was born and raised in Los Angeles. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from UCLA in 2007, graduating cum laude and making the honor roll several times, then moved to Texas for law school. He earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2010, where he belonged to the Criminal Lawyers Association and spent two years interning with the Lubbock County District Attorney's Office on cases involving family violence and crimes against children. That work showed him how prosecutors build a case.

Licensed in Texas in 2010, Mr. Ayers moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area the same year and clerked for Collin County Probate Judge Weldon Copeland. He opened his own practice, the Law Office of Allen M. Ayers, in 2011, and from 2012 to 2018 he was an associate attorney at Stuckle & Associates, PLLC, where he almost always tried cases as second chair.

He co-authored "The Purpose of Psychosexual Evaluations in Child Sex Cases," published in the August 2026 edition of Voice for the Defense.

Mr. Ayers does criminal defense because he enjoys the ability to push back against authority. Without defense lawyers, he says, the government can be completely arbitrary, and acting as a check on that has always appealed to him.
