Diana Denise ‘Diane’ Perez, Bryan Criminal Attorney

Diana Denise 'Diane' Perez is a criminal defense attorney in the Bryan office of Dunham & Jones. She handles DWI and misdemeanor cases along with felonies, most often drug possession, family violence, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, in Brazos County, Montgomery County, and the surrounding counties.

Ms. Perez earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2008, where she took part in the Board of Advocates, moot court, and an environmental law clinic, and she was licensed in Texas that year. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas in Houston in 2004, after studying biology at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Her career spans appellate, civil, and criminal work on both sides of the courtroom. She clerked for the First Court of Appeals in Houston, working on civil and criminal appeals with a focus on ineffective assistance of counsel and writ review, and she held a federal clerkship with the U.S. Department of the Navy's Naval Facilities Engineering Command at the Washington Navy Yard. She later practiced personal injury, family, and criminal law with Houston-area firms, including Alex Hernandez Law Firm and Noyola Law Firm, worked on corporate litigation document review, and served as a jail docket attorney in Montgomery County. From 2023 to 2024 she ran a solo practice in Nueces County and took felony and misdemeanor court appointments there, and from 2024 to 2025 she served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Nueces County District Attorney's Office, assigned to a misdemeanor court and supporting the office's felony and misdemeanor courts.

Ms. Perez has also trained as a mediator through the Harris County Dispute Resolution Center and has mediated high-conflict family matters and civil disputes. She has volunteered with the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and is active in the Houston, Nueces County, Montgomery County, and Brazos County bar associations.

In every case, Ms. Perez starts with what her client has been through and then tests the State's account: what the officers say happened, and whether it was captured on video. She works toward a dismissal wherever the evidence supports one.
