Matt Shanks is an experienced Texas criminal defense attorney with more than 20 years of experience dedicated to protecting the rights and futures of his clients. He earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law and has represented thousands of clients in criminal matters ranging from low-level misdemeanors to serious felony charges. His practice is built on thorough preparation, strong advocacy, and a steadfast commitment to achieving favorable results.Mr. Shanks began his career as an Assistant County Attorney in Williamson County, where he prosecuted DWI, assault, family violence, and drug cases. During his time as a prosecutor, he tried more than 25 cases to verdict. This prosecutorial background provides him with valuable insight into how cases are charged, investigated, and tried—an advantage he now uses to anticipate the State’s strategy and aggressively defend his clients.
Before joining Dunham & Jones, Mr. Shanks operated his own successful criminal defense practice, securing hundreds of felony and misdemeanor dismissals through skilled negotiation and effective courtroom advocacy.
