Thomas Randolph "Randy" Rey is a criminal defense attorney in the El Paso office of Dunham & Jones and a former prosecutor with the El Paso County District Attorney's Office, where he served as Senior Trial Attorney. He has tried at least thirty cases to a jury, and his practice centers on driving while intoxicated (DWI) and family violence cases.
Mr. Rey was born and raised in El Paso and is a sixteenth-generation El Pasoan. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and a minor in English, then earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. His Texas license dates to 2003, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Western Districts of Texas.
Most of his cases are in the county courts of El Paso County. Before Dunham & Jones he spent years in general practice, handling divorce, injury, and immigration matters alongside criminal cases, and his criminal work now runs past DWI and family violence to theft, drug charges, trespassing, and resisting arrest.
Mr. Rey has toured the Texas Department of Public Safety laboratory and talked with the scientists who run the testing machines and testify for the State. As a prosecutor he spent hours studying how DWI and family violence cases get built, and he puts that to work from the other side of the courtroom now.
Mr. Rey is bilingual and speaks Spanish with clients every day. He believes good people make mistakes. He considers it a blessing to help people in his own community, and he works as hard as he can for every client he represents. Away from the courthouse he is a car enthusiast, an artist, and a musician.
