A native of Abilene, Texas, Mr. Sims earned his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University before attending the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. While in law school, he clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, where he began his trial career in federal court as a certified student attorney. This early experience sparked a lifelong passion for trial work, and he completed multiple jury trials before even earning his law degree.
After graduation, Mr. Sims served as a Deputy District Attorney for Sacramento County, where he spent 15 years litigating a wide range of criminal cases in California state courts. In 2004, he returned to Texas and continued his prosecutorial career, serving as the First Assistant District Attorney in Brown County and later as an Assistant District Attorney with the Border Prosecution Unit, a collaborative statewide effort focused on serious crimes in Texas border communities.
In addition to his prosecutorial work, Mr. Sims spent several years in private practice, representing clients in both criminal defense and civil matters. His breadth of experience on both sides of the courtroom gives him a unique perspective in crafting effective, strategic defenses for clients facing serious charges.
Mr. Sims is licensed to practice law in both Texas and California and is widely respected for his trial readiness, ethical judgment, and commitment to justice.
