Texas Criminal Defense Attorneys Dunham & Jones

Thomas Reed, Bryan Criminal Attorney

Thomas Reed is a criminal defense attorney in the Bryan office of Dunham & Jones, and he has spent more than twenty-five years defending the people of the Brazos Valley. In that time he has tried somewhere between 75 and 100 cases to a jury — a figure that places him among the most trial-tested attorneys in the region, and one that reflects a simple conviction: the best result is not always the fastest one, and sometimes it can only be reached in front of twelve people.

An Aggie by training, Mr. Reed earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University in College Station in 1995, where he was active in Student Government and competed in moot court. He went on to St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1998. After a brief period practicing civil litigation with a small firm in Lufkin, he returned to Bryan-College Station in August 1999 and opened his own practice.

For the next twenty-six years, Mr. Reed ran that solo practice, handling primarily criminal defense alongside family law, until joining Dunham & Jones in March 2026. He is based in Brazos County and also covers Robertson, Burleson, and Grimes Counties for the firm; earlier in his career he appeared regularly in Washington and Milam Counties as well. His practice centers on DWI, possession of marijuana and other drug charges, and assault cases, both family violence and otherwise.

His years handling family law give him an uncommon vantage point on family violence allegations in particular. Mr. Reed has seen firsthand how a criminal charge reaches into a divorce, a custody arrangement, or a protective order, and he defends those cases with the full picture in view.

That long view shapes how he counsels every client. "Fines, probation, and even jail will end," Mr. Reed tells clients, "but records last forever." His goal is the best long-term outcome available, and he is candid that reaching it takes patience — a quick resolution is not always the right one. He makes a point of giving clients as much detailed information as he can about their case, so that the decision to go to trial or accept a plea is genuinely theirs to make.

Mr. Reed is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Brazos County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and has previously belonged to the Brazos County Bar Association. He grew up in several places before graduating from Scurry-Rosser High School in Kaufman County, southeast of Dallas. Outside the practice, he volunteers with and fosters for local animal rescues.
