Mark Edwin Brunner, Austin Criminal Attorney

Mark Edwin Brunner is a criminal defense attorney in the Austin office of Dunham & Jones and a former First Assistant District Attorney of Williamson County. He has worked in criminal law alone since he was licensed in Texas in 1998, handling major felonies along with DWI and assault cases at the misdemeanor level in Williamson, Bastrop, and Travis Counties.

A lifelong Texan, Mr. Brunner earned his degree in psychology from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1993 and his law degree from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas.

Mr. Brunner served with the Williamson County District Attorney's Office from 2003 to 2005 and again from 2012 to 2016, rising to First Assistant District Attorney and running the daily operation of the office. In between he practiced defense at his own Brunner Law Firm (2005 to 2006), with Robert Phillips and Associates (2006 to 2009), and at his own firm again (2009 to 2012). He has tried more than 75 jury trials as first chair and has handled thousands of cases on both sides of the docket.

Mr. Brunner uses a three-part approach he calls S.E.E. Strategy is the overall plan for the client. Evaluation means knowing the facts and the law backwards and forwards, and every piece of evidence, not only what the State hands over but what comes from the client and from experts. Energy means staying relentless with the State.

He does this work because he likes helping good people, and because rights are worth fighting for. He has spoken at Williamson County Bar Association CLE programs in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Outside of work, Mr. Brunner hikes, writes fiction, and plays board games with his family.
